GeoCities

????雅虎管理層在互聯(lián)網(wǎng)泡沫時(shí)期出的另一個(gè)昏招，就是以36億美元收購GeoCities的交易。GeoCities算是一種早期的在線博客服務(wù)，但是雅虎收購GeoCities之后基本上什么也沒有做。這項(xiàng)以花哨炫目的頁面出名的服務(wù)就這樣被雅虎束之高閣，任其自生自滅，直到最后被徹底關(guān)閉。

GeoCities

????In yet another example of poor leadership during the dotcom bubble, Yahoo acquired GeoCities, a sort of early online blogging service, for $3.6 billion in overpriced stock. Then Yahoo essentially did nothing. The service, known for its garish, neon pages, was left to rot for years until it was shut down.

MySpace

????2006年，魯伯特?默多克的新聞集團(tuán)（News Group）收購了當(dāng)時(shí)最熱門的社交網(wǎng)絡(luò)MySpace。5.2億美元的收購價(jià)格至少與互聯(lián)網(wǎng)時(shí)期某些漫天要價(jià)的案例相比還是較為合理的。但是隨著用戶開始蜂擁奔向剛剛創(chuàng)業(yè)的無名小卒、后來的社交網(wǎng)絡(luò)王者Facebook，就連5.2億美金的代價(jià)也顯得太高了。兩年前新聞集團(tuán)以3500萬美元的白菜價(jià)將MySpace轉(zhuǎn)手賣出。

MySpace

????Acquiring MySpace in 2006 gave Rupert Murdoch's News Corp. (NWS) the hottest social network of its time. The price, $520 million, seemed relatively reasonable, at least compared with some of the excess of the bubble era. But even that turned out to be far too much after users started flocking to Facebook (FB), the social networking upstart and soon-to-be king. News Corp. sold MySpace, a shell of its former self, two years ago for $35 million.

????美國在線1999年以將近100億美元的價(jià)格收購了網(wǎng)景通訊公司（Netscape Communications），這100億美元換來的是一個(gè)正在過時(shí)的網(wǎng)頁瀏覽器和網(wǎng)站。當(dāng)時(shí)美國在線的領(lǐng)導(dǎo)在想什么呢？我們只知道美國在線嘗試著把網(wǎng)景公司重新改造成一個(gè)門戶網(wǎng)站，但是失敗了，另外還發(fā)表了一些關(guān)于電子商務(wù)的空洞言論，之后就沒了下文。最終還是由于在瀏覽器戰(zhàn)爭(zhēng)時(shí)代，微軟因涉嫌侵犯了網(wǎng)景公司的專利，讓美國在線從微軟那獲得了一筆罰款，然后去年又獲得了一筆，算是在網(wǎng)景身上見著了一點(diǎn)回頭錢。但是這次并購對(duì)網(wǎng)景公司來說卻是重大失敗，現(xiàn)在網(wǎng)景的瀏覽器已經(jīng)壽終正寢多年了。

Netscape

????AOL got itself a fading web browser and has-been website when it acquired Netscape Communications in 1999 for nearly $10 billion. What were AOL executives thinking? It's not exactly clear other than a failed effort to remake Netscape into a web portal and some vague comments about e-commerce. AOL was eventually able to wring some money out of Microsoft (MSFT,Fortune 500) for antitrust violations during the browser war era and some more last year for Netscape's patents. But the acquisition remains a big loser while Netscape, the browser, is long dead.
